Charli XCX led with five nominations, followed by Dua Lipa, The Last Dinner Party, and Ezra Collective, each with four. The Beatles earned a Song of the Year nod for “Now and Then,” their first nomination since 1983, while The Cure garnered three nominations, including British Album of the Year for Songs of a Lost World.

Performances

The lineup featured Sabrina Carpenter (who opened with a mash-up including “Espresso”), Sam Fender, JADE, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party, Myles Smith, Lola Young, and a joint performance by Ezra Collective and Jorja Smith. Shaboozey was initially announced but couldn’t perform due to unforeseen circumstances.

Special Moments

A tribute to Liam Payne, the late One Direction star, was introduced by Whitehall, reflecting on his impact following his tragic passing in October 2024. Rising Star winner Myles Smith, announced in December 2024, also performed and was nominated in three additional categories.

Voting and Awards

Genre awards (Alternative/Rock, Dance, Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap, Pop, R&B) were decided by public vote via WhatsApp from January 31 to February 14, 2025. Other categories were determined by the BRITs Voting Academy, a refreshed group of about 1,300 music industry members, overseen by Civica for fairness.
The trophy was designed by artist Gabriel Moses, representing Nigeria and South London.

The ceremony underscored a strong year for British female artists and emerging talent, with Brat by Charli XCX marking a cultural milestone. It also highlighted diversity, with Ezra Collective becoming the first jazz act to win Group of the Year. The event supported the BRIT Trust, raising funds for music education and well-being charities like The BRIT School and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
