Chris Brown has filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, Ample Entertainment, and other individuals involved in the production of the docuseries “Chris Brown: A History of Violence.”
The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, where Brown alleges that the documentary, which aired in October 2024 on Investigation Discovery, contains false and defamatory claims about him, including accusations of sexual assault.

Brown’s legal team contends that the producers of the docuseries were made aware of the inaccuracies in their narrative but proceeded with the release anyway. They argue that the documentary’s portrayal of Brown as a “serial rapist and a sexual abuser” is baseless, especially since he has never been convicted of any sex-related crime.
The lawsuit specifically highlights the allegations from a woman referred to as “Jane Doe” in the documentary, asserting that her claims were proven false and that she had previously withdrawn a lawsuit against Brown due to lack of credibility.

Further, Brown’s attorneys allege that Jane Doe has a history of violence and erratic behavior herself, which the documentary failed to address, thereby presenting her as a credible source. They argue that this selective portrayal was done to sensationalize the story for profit, damaging Brown’s reputation which he has been working to rebuild since his 2009 assault conviction involving Rihanna.
Brown claims that the documentary has negatively impacted his career, reputation, and business opportunities, and he intends to donate a portion of any awarded damages to victims of sexual abuse.
The lawsuit accuses Warner Bros. Discovery and the producers of violating basic journalistic principles by ignoring evidence that contradicted their narrative. This legal action is framed by Brown’s legal team as an effort to protect the truth and underscores the potential harm to both Brown’s image and the credibility of genuine survivors of violence.
