Netflix today released the teaser for Umthetho, a powerful new South African drama series premiering on 14 August 2026.

The eight-episode drama – an adaptation of the Netflix Brazilian series Brotherhood – is centred on a brilliant young public prosecutor, Mbali (portrayed by Nqobile Nunu Khumalo), whose life is turned upside down when she is drawn into a ruthless prison syndicate run by her brother, Moses (Tony Kgoroge).

Torn between family loyalty and her duty to uphold the law, Mbali is forced to join forces with Moses to protect their younger brother, Sphelele  (Given Stuurman).

The star-studded cast features South African performing legends Sindi Dlathu, Obed Baloyi, Ernest Msibi and Molefi Monaisa, who deliver compelling performances.

With high-stakes twists, complex family dynamics and impossible moral dilemmas, Umthetho asks a simple but devastating question: when family and justice collide, which side do you choose?
