Rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was reportedly stabbed 14 times by another inmate on May 12, 2025, at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, where he is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. The attack occurred around 7:20 a.m. in the prison yard, with the assailant using a homemade weapon, often referred to as a “prison shank.”
Lanez sustained severe injuries, including seven wounds to his back, four to his torso, two to the back of his head, and one to the left side of his face, resulting in two collapsed lungs. He was initially treated by prison staff before being transported to a civilian hospital in Bakersfield and later airlifted to Kern Medical Hospital due to the seriousness of his condition.

Lanez’s team confirmed the incident via a statement on his official Instagram account, noting that he is now in stable condition, breathing on his own, and able to speak, though he remains hospitalized. The statement expressed gratitude for his survival, describing him as being in good spirits despite the pain.
Reports indicate his injuries are not life-threatening, but he may require an extended hospital stay due to their severity. The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, along with the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, is investigating. No suspect has been publicly identified, and no charges have been reported as of now.

This incident follows ongoing controversies surrounding Lanez’s incarceration, including a cell raid in 2024 over confiscated recording equipment and allegations by Megan Thee Stallion that he was harassing her through third parties, leading to a five-year restraining order issued in January 2025.
Lanez has maintained his innocence in the Megan Thee Stallion case, convicted in December 2022 on three felony counts: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He is eligible for parole as early as 2029.
