Easily one of the biggest Amapiano songs in the world “Hamba Wena” was released in 2022 by Deep London and Boohle. It became an instant hit not only with the older generation but babies as well.
Legal Action Against Smada Eh!
Nigerian artist, Smada, released “Smada Eh!” on October 2023 which immediately reached a few ears of South Africans who felt like the song was familiar and some began to mention its similar sound to Deep London and Boohle’s “Hamba Wena.”
Over time the song started to get attention in South Africa and we at 9ice Entertainment also picked it up and noticed that no credits had been made to Deep London and Boohle. The artists have confirmed that no copyright clearance was acquired by Smada for using their exploiting work thus a legal case has been opened.

On the morning of November 23, 2023, an uproar arose on X (formerly Twitter) when an influencer shared their concern about Nigerian artists stealing Amapiano and the need for South Africans to gatekeep the sound. The masses immediately made an example with “Smada Eh!” and began calling out Smada while also asking Boohle and Deep London to sue him.
Shortly, Deep London confirmed that a legal case against Smada had been opened and they will make sure they make him pay a heavy penalty for the infringement.
