Shrek 5 is shaping up to be an exciting return to the swamp! It’s set to hit theaters on December 23, 2026, just in time for the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz are all confirmed to reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona, bringing back that classic trio we’ve loved since 2001. There’s also buzz about Zendaya joining the cast, possibly as one of Shrek’s daughters, which could add a fresh twist to the story.
The film’s been coming for a long time—16 years since Shrek Forever After in 2010. Eddie Murphy’s been dropping hints, saying he started recording back in mid-2024, and production seems to be rolling along smoothly.
It’s directed by Walt Dohrn, who’s got deep ties to the series from his work on Shrek 2 and beyond, with Conrad Vernon and Brad Ableson co-directing. Plot details are still hush-hush, but there’s talk of it being a “big reinvention,” maybe exploring what’s happened in Far Far Away since we last left off. Plus, there’s a Donkey spin-off in the works too, so the Shrek universe is expanding.
