What is the Masked Singer?
The Masked Singer is a top-secret singing competition in which celebrities face off against each other and appear in elaborate costumes with full-face masks to conceal their identities. It originates from a South Korean program called The King of Mask Singer, developed by Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC Entertainment).
South Africa, just like over 50 other countries which include the US, Thailand, Poland, Russia, Portugal, and more franchises the music reality TV show. Executive Producers of The Masked Singer South Africa commonly shortened to Masked Singer SA include media mogul, Anele Mdoda, who has actively been promoting the music reality TV show on her huge social media platforms and her 947 radio show, Anele and the Club.

Format of Masked Singer SA
The format of Masked Singer features a wide range of celebrities who perform songs anonymously in fascinating masks or head-to-toe costumes chosen by them which are also a clue of who they are. The judges or detectives will then guess the identity of the celebrity behind each mask based on clues the singers give about themselves, and their voice.
After their performances, the singers are voted in by the audiences in each round and the judges or detectives do not participate in this voting process. The singer who receives the fewest votes in each round or episode is unmasked and eliminated until only one mask is left which shall be declared as the winner.

Masked Singer SA Judges & Host
The Masked Singer SA season 1 judges also known as ‘The Detectives’ include popular household names, Skhumba Hlophe, Sithelo Shozi, Somizi Mhlongo, and J’Something with hilarious comedian, Mpho Popps being the host.
As the judges have to guess which celebrity is behind each mask, J’Something has been the most spot-on Detectives on Season 1 correctly identifying Mmusi Maimane as the celebrity behind the Warrior mask, and a few more.
