corona sunsets festival 2026 cape town

The Corona Sunsets Festival, held on Saturday, 21 March at The Glen Country Club in Cape Town, concluded earlier than planned following extreme weather conditions and a joint decision by the City of Cape Town authorities and the organisers to halt the event. With wind gusts exceeding 70km/h, the safety of guests, artists, and crew remained the highest priority.

Before the early closure, thousands of festivalgoers had gathered for a full afternoon of music, culture and connection, as the festival marked 10 years of Corona Sunsets Festival in South Africa.

Since its debut in 2016, the festival has grown into a cultural platform spanning 14 editions across three cities, bringing together over 100,000 festivalgoers locally.

Sustainability has remained central to the festival’s approach, with more than 860,000 single-use plastic items avoided through its Blue Standard initiatives – helping protect the natural environments that shape the experience.

Festivalgoers experienced a full afternoon programme of performances and immersive “More Than Music” experiences before the weather interruption.

Sun-El Musician delivered a deeply immersive set leading into the festival’s sunset moment, while earlier performances from Zakes Bantwini and Msaki carried the energy across the afternoon.

Beyond the music, guests moved between art installations, wellness experiences, movement sessions, drum circles and the debut Farm-to-Fire dining experience, which received an overwhelmingly positive response from guests who participated – reinforcing the festival’s ethos of creating spaces for connection, nature and shared experience.

For audiences across the country, the festival was broadcast on SABC 1 and streamed on SABC Plus.

Hosted by DJ Sabby and Hope Mbhele, the broadcast featured interviews with artists and festivalgoers, along with a special performance by Msaki recorded earlier in the day – ensuring the spirit of the festival was shared with viewers nationwide.

While the Clifton event concluded early, the festival experience continued across the city at participating partner venues, including Café Caprice, Gypsy Rabbit, Souk, Hudson’s / Rita’s in Kloof and Mamacitas.

As part of the festival pivot, Liquideep and Sun-El Musician performed at Souk, while Purple Disco Machine continued the night with a set at Café Caprice, allowing the celebration to continue in a safe and controlled environment.
